Afternoon passers by, how was your morning? Ours was rather dark and chilly so we scrapped our walk to the park for fear of rain and stayed in and decided to do some blogging. I have finally completed my felt 'name wreath' as I now call it for Fynn's room! It took me months of work - on and off - but I think on average 1 1/2 hours a day everyday I could have completed it in a week.
The design is completely mine (and that's me copyrighting it right now), all patterns hand drawn, all pieces hand cut and hand sewn using 40% wool felt and embroidery thread, purchased from Paper-and-String (that's where I always purchase my wool blends, thread, and buttons). I came up with it one day standing on our tiny landing outside Fynn's room trying to hear if he was awake or asleep and I realised that the landing is one of the most neglected spaces of our house. Let me paint you a picture - unplastered walls, holes in said walls, unattached sockets hanging from the same walls that accommodate some dead moths and spider webs; fugly space. Now it's no better, but at least the name sign is eye catching so the mess can be overlooked. And everyone instantly knows that Fynnie is in his room counting sheep - cuteness overload.
Surprisingly I am now out of felt, typically as soon as all the ideas started rolling in, so I am just pottering around the house for now, trying to find the best edible play dough recipe for Fynley as the one I tried was awfully salty but I think salt gives the dough its elasticity so if I cannot omit it altogether I will try reducing the quantity and adding some icing sugar instead. Once I have perfected the recipe, if that ever happens I will share it with ya'll x
This post could also serve as a little catch up platform between us. I believe I owe my readers an explanation regarding my former Watermelon Cupcake blog which has mysteriously renamed itself to Salt Monster and set up camp on the dark side of the moon, and for a while I'm afraid. I shall lift the veil of this mystery, it was me. Yes, the Salt Monster who also makes salty dough is just another side to what we all are, a dark, pissed off blob of ego hunger that lives in all of us and finds solace in the digital world of moaning and complaining. The thing is I cannot find a balance of normal everyday blogging and free, abstract 'expressionist blogging' if I may so fancily give it a name, so my old blog should be viewed separately to this one. So, from now on: Wispy Winks = family life and crafts of a normal human being; The Salt Monster = odd rhyming couplets of a black blob in space.
On another note I thought introducing Fynley's monthly updates would be a cute idea, I saw a few mommy bloggers do it and I think it's neat and my family can refer back to this log and remember Fynn's milestones and interests.
Fynley is 14 months in 3 days and he is a cutie fruity as always.

He climbs furniture with ease now and loves doing so too. He is a very confident walker understanding when to climb up a little step ad when to step down from one and I started teaching him to walk with me short distances to the park or around the block (he has never made it to the park yet as he seems to think that he is the one leading me places). Fynn is a stubborn little baby who isn't very happy when things aren't done his way but at the same time he is persistent and will patiently stick to tasks for long periods of time until he does them properly. He is so into stacking cups, placing shapes into appropriate spaces and into running around playing ball. He loves hide and seek, peek-a-boo and watching Peppa Pig. He can say 'mamama' 'dadada' and 'bababa' but he usually says 'mam' or 'mum' when he feels picky while I am in the kitchen cooking dinner. The cutest things he does now is cuddle up next to me on the couch and give me frequent hugs. He also presses his warm forehead against mine and closes his eyes, like a little lion cub.
Plans for this week - go swimming with Fynn, visit the zoo for more walking and work on that wretched play dough recipe!
That's all for now folks!
