Welcome to my virtual nook of space here at Wispy Winks! My name is Tatiana Aksarova, but some of you may know me as Watermelon Cupcake over at Blogger.com. I make and sell felt crafts like my bespoke felt robots and felt ornaments. My store space is limited to five products but you can see all my new products on my blog and can put in orders by contacting me.
Wispy Winks was born out of my obsession with felt and my inability to keep my mouth shut (hence the blogging). I will still be keeping my Watermelon Cupcake blog for personal updates, goofy posts and general ramblings, and you can access my blog through the ‘Watermelon Cupcake’ button located to the right on of the 'Blog' page. But this space is basically my dream coming true, and you, my dear readers, are a massive contribution to making this happen, so cheers! :) Ever since my son Fynley was born ten months ago something in me has innately changed. Our children teach us so many undeniably important life lessons: patience, humility, tolerance... in addition to that I discovered that since having a baby I have become an incurable craft junkie! How random considering that I couldn't stitch a hole in a sock before Fynn has come about! Ten very swift months later I have decided to open up an online shop in addition to my blog and I really hope that my felt plushies will interest other people other than exclusively myself and my mom . Hi mom, thanks for being such a loyal follower of mine :) x I make a lot of stuff for my home, which is primarily made using felt, but what I enjoy making the most are felt robots. I just love picking up some colourful felt, embroidery thread and scissors and start creating little personalities to inhabit the homes of my friends and family. It is like baking, only better because: (a) I am not very good at baking, and; (b) because it takes substantially longer to get the desired result but every step is handmade through and through. Handmade is hot again! Everybody wants a bit of upcycled trash turned treasure or granny chic in their home, but having these products in your abode is not as cheap as buying high street factory manufactured products. When I decided to create an online shop I immediately knew that I would want to establish a strong, intimate (not that kind of intimate *wink wink*) relationship with my customers, so I am going to outline the whole creative process for the creation of my felt robots. The way I work is I draw out a pattern for each robot, hand-cut the felt into panels and hand-stitch them together. The whole process is very calming and I always put all my love into each and every robot. On average it takes me ten full hours to complete one robot, but with a little teething baby and a home to run I spread the workload over 2-3 days. That is pretty much my creative process in a nutshell, so if you put in an order I will aim to have it sewn and posted to you within a week. If you wish to purchase one of my designs or want me to create a whole new design for you all you have to do is e-mail me and we can brainstorm together! You will always have a choice between a robot made out of 100% wool felt or 40% wool blend. The difference between the two is that is that 100% wool felt is very durable, thick and extremely pleasing to touch. I love working with it as it holds its shape really well and it doesn't rip easily. However, all that comes at a cost as it is pricey. The 40% wool blend is a lot better for plushies than acrylic felt but it is thinner than 100% wool felt which makes it trickier to work with. On the bright side, it is cheaper than 100% wool felt and comes in a lot more colours too! So that pretty much sums up my products. As I said, you can ask for any design in any of those two materials and in any colour. Thank you for reading, now make yourselves a well-deserved cup of tea and browse some of my creations in my slideshow below and my store page. Keep your eyes peeled for my first giveaway coming up very soon! |
